Design & Manufacturing
In 2008 I launched my brand, Rock & Royalty, later named Rox + Royalty due to trademark complications, inspired by the mixture of medieval European royalty and modern day rock and roll. Graphic tees, embellished apparel, jewelry and note cards were available on my web store with customers around the world. I licensed music from over 40 indie artists to offer as a gift with purchase, and worked the summer festival circuit in Columbus, OH.
In 2012 I was selected as a designer for Columbus’s renowned HighBall Halloween Costume Couture Contest. Soon after word spread quickly about my clothing line, receiving invites to fashion shows around the world and a call to audition for Bravo’s Styled to Rock with Rihanna and Pharrell. I was only just beginning, and unprepared to move forward.
I spent the next year learning how to sew, drape and pattern make via YouTube and a few lessons from friends. Competing in my second HighBall competition, I won the grand prize with my Modern Gatsby collection and hot air balloon costume. I finished the collection and took it to a small show in New York during NYFW.
My husband and I decided it was finally time to move so I had more resources and opportunities. The arctic winter made it easy to choose Los Angeles and we moved across the country in May 2014 to Marina del Rey, CA. We are working together to build a client base for Modern Material and develop a business plan to move Rox + Royalty forward.
